Law Students

Why volunteer at JusticeNet?

If you have an interest in pro bono and are looking to augment your existing legal knowledge with practical legal experience, JusticeNet offers an excellent opportunity participate in the coordination of pro bono legal services in South Australia. You will be involved in running a not-for-profit organisation, be exposed to real-life cases and gain an insight into the manner in which JusticeNet works with member firms and barristers to assist marginalised people within the community.

What opportunities are available?

JusticeNet offers student placements as part of Clinical Legal Education courses at university. Students can volunteer for one day per week for 8-12 weeks during the university semester as part of their course. Currently, the University of South Australia and Adelaide University participates in this program. JusticeNet also accepts law student volunteers outside this program (including volunteering beyond the normal university timetable and over the summer break) subject to availability.

How do I apply?

Please email admin@justicenet.org.au to request an application form and position description.

Please note: There are currently no student volunteer positions vacant outside CLE placements.

Retired and Career-Break Lawyers

We would like to hear from retired and ‘career break’ practitioners who are looking for opportunities to assist disadvantaged South Australians. We welcome experienced practitioners who can provide their knowledge, skills and experience to perform vital work including:

  • conducting telephone or face-to-face client interviews and assessing applications for pro bono assistance for complex matters;
  • discrete project work on law reform/policy issues of relevance to JusticeNet; and
  • participating in the delivery of low cost legal training to NFP organisations (JusticeNet is currently piloting a seminar program which we hope to build on in 2011).

The skills and experience offered by practitioners make an important contribution to disadvantaged people seeking access to justice.

If you have an interest in participating in the activities of JusticeNet please contact Tim Graham at tim.graham@justicenet.org.au or on 08 0313 5005. We may have a project that will interest you.
