JusticeNet is seeking an experienced Migration Solicitor to join our Refugee and Asylum Seeker Project (RASP). JusticeNet’s RASP provides legal help to refugees and asylum seekers who cannot afford a lawyer or access legal help from other sources. RASP is the primary provider of free legal help for asylum seekers in South Australia.
The Migration Solicitor will have day-to-day responsibility for delivering JusticeNet’s RASP. The positon primarily involves facilitating legal help for ‘Legacy Caseload’ asylum seekers who are seeking judicial review of adverse decisions made by the Immigration Assessment Authority under the Commonwealth Governments Fast Track Assessment Process.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice, assistance and pro bono referrals to ‘Legacy Caseload’ asylum seekers and other eligible clients with migration law issues. This unique role will require you to work closely with our network of pro bono barristers and solicitors. The position also involves regular client and stakeholder outreach and the delivery of support and training to our pro bono network.
The Migration Solicitor works closely with the Referrals Solicitor (Civil) and reports to JusticeNet’s Executive Director. The position is based at our office at the University of Adelaide Law School.
Please note: While JusticeNet is recruiting to fill a full-time position, there is flexibility to accommodate an outstanding candidate who is seeking part-time employment and/or flexible working hours. Accordingly, the exact scope of the responsibilities of the position may be influenced by the expertise, experience and availability of the successful candidate.
The salary package includes a base salary of $70 - 80,000 pa (or pro rata, if part-time) plus superannuation and access to tax-free salary packaging. This position is currently funded for 12 months and JusticeNet is seeking further funding.
